The Remaining Superdelegates; It's Not Pretty.

Thu May 22, 2008 at 12:19:36 AM PDT

Well since Rachel Maddow's comments and various diaries that hit the rec list with regularity, the big question right now is whether Obama can close this thing out by the end of May.  Since there are no primaries before that day, it will have to be done with SDs.

Perhaps it is time to start breaking the remaining SDs down and see who might endorse Obama before the meeting on FL and MI.  My apologies in advance for formatting issues.

The Pelosi Club: Profile in courage?

Wed May 21, 2008 at 09:21:16 AM PDT

As we all know, there is a group of SDs who said they will give their vote to the leader of the pledged delegate count.  As of last night, that question has been answered.

So where are you Pelosi Club?

Time to call Grammy and Grampy,

Mon May 12, 2008 at 04:31:24 PM PDT

or Mom and Dad, as the case may be.

This probably comes as a shock to nobody, but the MSM is doing a disservice to you.  This of course is putting it mildly, as what I am about to discuss goes beyond just doing a disservice, but when it comes to this "working class white" narrative, they are really putting themselves over the top when it comes to creating a nonexistent news story.

What does this rant on the MSM have to do with Grammy and Grampy, or Mom and Dad as the case may be?  You’ll have to follow me over the fold...

Searching for a word

Wed Apr 16, 2008 at 10:21:53 AM PDT

I'm trying to remember a word I have heard before, and can't seem to recall it.  It's a word that seems to pop up every so often and then falls out of the lexicon, then reappears again four years later.

I remember hearing this word a lot when the media was speaking about how fun it would be to have a barley soda with George Bush and in describing Al Gore's wardrobe choices.  It seemed to come up again when John Kerry failed to order the 'proper' cheese on his steak sandwich, and was readily used to describe his choice of leisure activities.

Why Obama is right, a DK diary perspective reprise.

I haven't spent much time in Ohio, even less in Pennsylvania.  But I can't imagine things there are all that much different than places where I have spent quite a bit of time, Fort Wayne and Lake County Indiana, Kenosha/Racine, Wisconsin, and most recently, Rockford, Illinois.

Highly irresponsibility journalism - Mark Thompson, Time

Just clicked on Yahoo's front page and saw a news story originally from Time' website.

The article can be found here.

The lie of the earmark

Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 09:03:55 AM PDT

Don't get me wrong.  Nobody likes wasteful government spending.  Nobody likes bridges to nowhere or airports for a handful of corporate executives. But when the media decides to report on wasteful government spending, it tends to be in regards to the dreaded 'earmark.'

And as everyone knows, John McCain is the 'anti-earmark' champion.  And so a media that perpetuates a narrative that earmarks is the main thing to look at when it comes to wasteful government spending, it necessarily plays right into John McCain's hands.

Why Rs are switching to D...the next spin job.

Tue Apr 01, 2008 at 01:10:36 PM PDT

A week or two ago, I countered a few arguments that claimed there is no difference between Rs and Is who voted for Obama and those that are starting to vote for Hillary.

I think it's readily apparent to clear minded folks that the R's and I's who voted for Obama generally did so because they were energized by his candidacy, whereas those that voted for Hillary, who generally only did so in recent primaries, did so in an attempt to party-raid and at the request of right wing talkies.

I've been troubled all day

Sun Mar 30, 2008 at 12:44:29 AM PDT

I've wanted to come up with an eloquent and diplomatic diary to Hillary supporters appealing for forgiveness if they have felt abused and asking for their support as Democrats in the general election if Obama wins the nomination, while at the same time appealing to them to understand why they may have been abused.  After all, there are oodles of Obama supporters who have been flamed as concern trolls for discussing various issues, the Wright story in particular, me included, so some of us feel your pain.

The media has turned.

Fri Mar 21, 2008 at 10:23:53 PM PDT

I must start with some measured criticism, then I will move on to the primary focus of this rant, the outright bias of the corporate MSM.

What were so many here thinking?  Seriously, what the hell made so many label anyone, no matter how pro-Obama they were, as concern trolls simply for stating that the Wright issue was problematic?

What the hell is Stanley, Inc.?

Fri Mar 21, 2008 at 05:34:19 PM PDT

Or perhaps the question should be 'who the hell to they think they are?'

Probably too short for a diary, but I'm pee'd.

So the name of the contractor has been released in this article..  Who the hell are they...other than yet another upstart that suddenly becomes incredibly wealthy via contracting with the Bush administration.

Is the Wright narrative done for now?

Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 10:38:13 AM PDT

I haven't been watching the idiot box much the past couple of days.  I think the last thing I watched was a quick back and forth right after The Speech, and was emboldened by the talking heads' responses.

What I have done is pop in here for a few meaningful headlines, and was a little dismayed at seeing the MSM was continuing their unfair, unbalanced media was following their typical routing.

But....

Framing. We still don't get it.

Fri Mar 14, 2008 at 08:51:22 AM PDT

I am watching with alarm as people who express concern about the words of Rev. Wright get flamed to death.  The general theme here seems to be that these things don't matter.  That they are not the words of Obama.  That they show how Jesus-ie Obama is.  That other churches are like this too.  That this stuff is truthful.  That this is only Fox and the even the far right isn't too up in arms about this.  That the real issue is a diarists spelling and screen name.

Were you people born yesterday?

Disenfranchisement. Some is bad, some is good.

Wed Mar 12, 2008 at 10:37:18 AM PDT

We all know the meme.  Despite agreeing to the rules before hand, Hillary and her camp are now faux outraged that the party would think of disenfranchising the Michigan and Florida delegates.

It's a pretty solid argument actually.  But here's the problem with it.  They seem to only be against disenfranchisement when it suits their needs.

Abuse of hearsay statements in the media

Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 09:01:39 AM PDT

Forgive for copying and pasting a reply post I made in a thread if you already read this, and the shameless plug at the bottom.  Also, forgive the misleading title.  It was designed to draw traffic.

I hear a lot of people dismissing news stories they don't agree with by saying "it's all just a bunch of hearsay."  As a baseball fan, I heard and read it a million times in the defense of Roger Clemens when the Mitchell report came out, and now I am reading it on this very blog by some posters who for some reason want to dismiss this McCain scandal.

This is complete nonsense, please read along to find out why...

Dear Progressive Talkers

Wed Feb 20, 2008 at 08:50:39 AM PDT

Last night I caught Rachel Maddow on MSNBC and Ed Schultz on Larry King.  I think it's great that these cable networks are finally beginning to even out the balance of viewpoints on their programming.  I also think it's great that progressives are getting better and better at framing the issues to 'win' in these little debates.  But.....

First time diary - on the GBCW issue

Sun Jan 27, 2008 at 10:56:14 AM PDT

Many ideas for diaries have come and gone, or come and still linger, waiting for my brain to form proper articulation or a way to make the thoughts more original or profound.  You see, I'm not the type that likes to raise old material and claim it as my own, and I'm not the type that is into stream of consciousness thought.  But here I go, posting on a topic that's been beat to death, and typing pretty much from the hip.

Recently I was going to type up my first diary on the topic of 'keep reading DK, but stop posting in candidate diaries.'  The reason is not because we are tearing apart the party in doing so.  The reason was an observation that the baseball message board I read is dominated by right wingers.  It's my experience that virtually every message board and blog on non-political subject matter also has political discussion, and the vast majority is dominated by hateful rednecks.  Thus, I thought a better outlet for all our angst is to go to the other communities we frequent and fight the good fight there, where it is desperately needed.

Still a good thought, but with the bevy of GBCW diaries based on candidate commentary lately, I feel the need to interject my observations on that subject matter.
